Competition #11 Update: WINNING SCREENPLAY OPTIONED

The winning script for the American Screenwriters Association’s 11th Annual Screenplay Competition has been optioned by Concept Entertainment.   (This is the competition that closed Nov. 30, 2007) The screenplay, FIREWORKS, was scripted by London-based writers Jonathan Hall and Hannah Robinson. Here’s what they had to say about their experience:

Dear ASA:

As a result of entering our script into the ASA International Script Competition, our script FIREWORKS has now been optioned by the excellent Concept Entertainment.  Concept is based in LA – a dream for a couple of writers based half a world away in London, England.  Producers Beth Hubbard, David Faigenblum and Melissa Goddard are currently packaging it for an anticipated shoot in the first quarter of 2009.

I’d urge any writer(s), anywhere in the world, with a script in good order, to enter the ASA competition.  Winning the Grand Prize was wonderful and ASA got us some fantastic meetings during our (fully-paid) trip to LA, but it was also interesting to note that when we sought our own meetings the prestige of the competition alone opened doors for us.  For us, ASA is the real deal, the cat’s pyjamas and our big break, all rolled into one.

All the best

Jonathan and Hannah
