Writing Dialogue

Writing dialogue is not as simple as talking. Though dialogue should sound spontaneous and lifelike, every word your characters speak should resonate with meaning and characterization. It's a crucial balance. Bad dialogue can sink a story like a hole in the hull, while good dialogue can elevate your work to a new level of quality.

In this course you'll discover dialogue techniques that you can apply to fiction, nonfiction, screenplays, teleplays, or stage plays. Through lectures, script analysis, and in-class exercises, you will learn how to write dialogue that rings true, stays focused, reveals character, creates tension, adds depth through subtext, and more.
