What makes us different?
Our philosophy, unlike that of most writing programs, is that good writing takes more than just talent. It is a craft, like carpentry, which can be taught. We focus on teaching the fundamental craft issues and techniques needed to write a story, and we get students writing. Learn More.

Comprehensive 10-week Workshops
Classes meet three hours per week, for a total of 30 hours a class. Each class is taught by a professional writer on Gotham's faculty and is limited to 14 students. Courses are offered four times a year at several Manhattan locations.

These workshops consist of lectures, in-class and take-home exercises, and submissions of longer works that are critiqued by the instructor and the rest of the class using our unique critiquing method, The Booth.

Six-week Workshops
Gotham also offers several six-week workshops including: Creative Writing 101, Nonfiction Writing 101, Business Writing, Film Analysis and Reading Fiction From The Fiction Writer's Point of View.

One-day Intensives
For a concise overview of many craft fundamentals, consider a one-day intensive. These courses are offered eight times a year in Manhattan.  Learn more.
