Private Instruction

For those who prefer individual instruction, we offer the opportunity to work one-on-one with a Gotham faculty membereither in-person in New York City or online. Many of the same talented instructors who present our regular classes are available to work with you to address your specific needs at a time that fits your schedule.

With a network of more than 100 talented writer/teachers, Gotham provides the individual attention you need no matter what the form of writingfrom fiction to nonfiction, memoir to children's books, poetry to songwriting. Whether you are a novice putting pen to paper for the first time or an experienced professional seeking advice and feedback, you'll find the expert instruction you need at Gotham Writers' Workshop.

Private Session (NYC only)
This private three-hour session introduces you to four major craft elements in the writing form of your choice. The private session allows you to explore the fundamentals through one-on-one instruction, writing exercises, and questions and answers.

Tuition: $225.

Private Class (NYC and Online)
The Private Class allows you to take any of our 6-week or 10-week writing courses one-on-one with a faculty member, either in NYC or online. If you've never taken a writing class before, Level I will teach the basics of craft for your chosen form of writing, through weekly lectures, writing exercises, analysis of published/produced work and feedback on your work in progress. If you've taken a level I class with us, Level II will help you deepen your knowledge of craft using your work as a springboard. Weekly discussions and in-depth critique of your project propel you and your work forward whether you're working on a rewrite or forging new material.

6-Week Tuition: $995
10-Week Tuition: $1745

The Mentorship/Writing Coach Program (NYC and Online)
The Mentorship Program matches you with an accomplished writing professional who will take you under his or her wing and help you realize your goals. First, we'll consult with you to get a sense of what you're looking for in a guide. Once assigned, your mentor/coach will listen to your goals, assess your needs, help you to devise a plan for your writing and steer you in the development of your writing projects. You'll get answers to your questions, feedback on your pages, and support from a source that knows the writing life and will come to know you. Plus you'll get a sense of how to position yourself in the writing community and, ultimately, market your work.

Introductory consultation: $45
12-hour package: $995 (expires in 6 months)
16-hour package: $1295 (expires in 8 months)
