What is your method for overcoming writer’s block?

I have two. The first is to stop, get a cup of coffee, and then do a little research for an aspect of the book. Because I write thrillers, there's usually something that I need to research. Or I'll switch up the screen and write something else. I often have two manuscripts going and the switch keeps my ideas fresh and helps get both done.

What are your favorite or most helpful writing prompts?

Not sure what is meant by prompts, but I always tell myself to get in the chair. I don't outline, so the story develops as it comes to me, and that means I'm often sitting in that chair with absolutely no idea what will happen next, but forcing myself to write once there always works. It's like magic.

What is the most valuable advice you received as a young writer?

It was from an agent. She emailed me with a rejection, but was kind enough to tell me that it had real promise, suggested a rewrite and suggested a writer's group to help with it. I immediately joined a group that my local library announced and they were invaluable! To this day I have a group (the library group disbanded after a few years) and I always run the problem chapters by them. As a writer, outside perspective from a trusted reader is key.
